Before assigning you to our clients, we will train you in the specialism that is aged care.

Training We Provide

All Selwyn Nursing Bureau healthcare assistants and registered nurses assigned to our clients are required to attend regular training covering the mandatory requirements indicated by the Health and Disability Commission. You are paid to attend training. During training, you will work at any one of the Auckland-based facilities of the Selwyn Foundation. We do not offer you work at any client facility until and unless you are trained to industry standards.

Annual mandatory training includes: pain management, back care, code of rights, challenging behaviour, infection control, abuse and neglect, incident reporting, hoist, fire emergency, hand washing and medication.

Two-yearly mandatory training includes: continence, cultural safety, chemical safety, harassment prevention, communication and documentation, death, palliative care, restraint, resuscitative status, spirituality, skin management, wound care and complaints procedure.

On average, only 20% of New Zealand healthcare assistants have a formal qualification. We believe in aged care as a career choice. This means: we aim to ensure our healthcare assistants are qualified. Selwyn Nursing Bureau helps healthcare assistants achieve a formal qualification up to National Certificate level - all we ask you for is your time and commitment.
